Nana's China Cabinet

One of Nana's things that we brought back with us over Christmas break was her china cabinet. We have needed a china cabinet and really any piece of furniture that can offer us extra storage in our house is a blessing! I thought it would be a great piece to paint... and under sole guidance from the Altar'd painting furniture ebook I set to work. It took time and some elbow grease, but I think it paid off.

Here are two before pictures... I really should have taken a better before picture, but by the time I thought of it I had already begun, sorry!

And here is the after...!
I am so pleased :) And I have to say- without the help of that how-to book I wouldn't have had a clue how to do it. I followed it step by step exactly.

(Knobs are from Restoration Hardware and pulls are from Lowes)

Yey!! We finally get to display out wedding cake topper!! and our toasting glasses too!! :)

This special unassuming little pitcher was Nana's grandmother's, who was Violet Purnell. That would make it Violet's great-great-GREATgrandmothers!!! THAT'S 3 GREATS!!!

And finally, here is the wedding present that Nana gave to Carter and I. Every time I look at it I think of her- so special! And I do believe that she would love her china cabinet painted in Interesting Aqua :)

Jody - you know how Nana LOVED the color aqua! And she would get the biggest kick out of knowing that color was "interesting aqua". What a joy this would be to her!!! Beautiful work you did!!

Jody,
The cabinet looks great! I too bought the Altar'd how to book but I'm still looking for a good piece of furniture to paint. You're inspiring me to get busy though!

I was just given a lot of my grandmothers furniture and didn't really know how to change the look of each piece. I had been looking for ideas on the web but couldn't find anything I loved. Your friend Helen gave me a link to this post and I was so excited when I saw what you did with your china cabinet. I love it! It looks so good and I have already downloaded the book you went by. You did an awesome job!
